Gold and Lace Frame

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open the image you wish to frame.  If you would like to use this one, right click and save it to your computer.

2. Choose a color from your image (I used #37556D) and make this your background color.  Go to Colors - Colorize and colorize the lace to match the color you chose (or as close as possible).  For this image, I colorized the lace using Hue 146 and Saturation 48.

3. Go to Image - Add - Borders.  Make sure Symmetric is checked and 20 is in all of the boxes.  Click OK.

4. Using your magic wand , Tolerence and Feather set to 0 and Sample Merged UNchecked, click on the new border.  Set the top box in your styles pallette to "pattern" and select your lace (scale 100% - angle 0).  Flood fill the border.

5. Go to Selections - Invert.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 65
Blur 20
Vertical and Horizontal 2.

6. Repeat the Cutout but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -2.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 50
Blur 10
Vertical and Horizontal 3.

7. Repeat the Drop Shadow but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -3.  Selections - Select None.  Your image should look like this (I made this smaller for the tutorial):

8. Go to Selections - Select All.  Then Selections - Modify - Contract by 1.  Then Image - Crop to Selection.

9. Add another border using the same settings as before.  You can texturize this border now if you would like.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:

10. Repeat the Inner Bevel.  Selections - Select None.

11. Add another border - this time 40px.  Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers).  Flood fill with your lace.  Go to Selections - Select All.  Then Selections - Modify - Contract by 40.  Hit Delete on the keyboard.  You should have something similiar to this:

12. Add the same Drop Shadow that we used before.

13. Go to Selections - Select All.  Now Selections - Modify - Contract by 40.  Now Selections - Modify - Expand by 20.  Go to Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds and use these settings:

Width 2
Opacity 15
Color Black
Horizontal checked
Light from top/Left checked

14. Apply the Blinds again, this time with Horizontal unchecked.  Selections - Select None.  This is what you should have now:

15. Keep selected and add a new layer.  Go to Selections - Modify - Expand by 5.  Flood fill the selection with the Gold Fill.  Selections - Modify - Contract by 5.  Hit Delete on the keyboard.  This is what you should have:

16. Add a Cutout using the same settings as before.  Selections - Select None.

17. Go to Layers - Merge - Merge All (Flatten).  Add a border of 5px and select with the Magic Wand.  Flood fill with the Gold Fill.  Selections - Select None.  This is what you should have:

18. Open the "corners 1" font that was included in the zip (this does not have to be installed).

19. Back in PSP, click on your image with the Text Tool and find the corners 1 in the drop-down list.  These are the settings that I used; you may find something that you like better :-)

20. Flood fill the selection with the Gold Fill and add the following Drop Shadow:

Color Black
Opacity 50
Blur 5
Horizontal and Vertical 1.

21. Repeat the Drop Shadow but change Horizontal and Vertical to -1.

22. Position the selection in the upper left corner.  Go to Edit - Copy, then Edit - Paste as New Selection.  Go to Image - Mirror and place this one in the upper left corner.  Copy and Paste again; this time go to Image - Flip and place this one in the lower left corner.  Copy and Paste again; this time Mirror and Flip and place this one in the lower right corner.  Selections - Select None.

23. Go to Image - Resize.  I resized mine to 65%, but you may want a different size.  Now go to Effects - Sharpen - Sharpen.  Here is one using a different image.
