This zip file containing the halloween selections. Unzip the file and save in your PSP Selections folder. If you do not have a Selections folder, make one now.

Happy Halloween

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open a transparent image 600 x 300. On your layer pallette, make your foreground color Black.

2. Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers) and name it "letters". Load the "jd-happy" selection (Selections - Load from Disk). Flood fill the selection with Black. Selections - Select None. On the same layer, load the "jd-halloween" selection and fill with Black. Selections - Select None.

3. With the Magic Wand , Tolerence and Feather set to 0 and Sample Merged UNchecked, and holding down the "Shift" key, click inside every other letter in both words as indicated in the image below:

4. Go to Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

5. Add a new layer and name it "colors". Flood fill the selected letters with #F79C52. Selections - Select None.

6. Go back to your "letters" layer and select the remaining letters. Selections - Modify - Expand by 1. Go back to your "Colors" layer and flood fill the selections with #EFD65A. Selections - Select None.

7. Still on the "Colors" layer, go to Selections - Select All, then Selections - Float. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 50
Blur 15
Horizontal and Vertical 3.

8. Selections - Select None. Go to Layers - Arrange - Move Down to put the "Colors" layer below the "Letters" layer.

9. Add a new layer and call it "bats". Load the "jd-bats" selection and flood fill with Black. Selections - Select None.

10. Go to Layers - Merge - Merge Visible. You can now export it as a tube (File - Export - Picture Tube) or save in psp format for later use.
