Leather Frame

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open the image you wish to frame.  If you would like to use this one, right click and save it to your computer.

2. Choose a medium color from your image and make this your foreground color (I am using #A3A9CA).  Set your background to Pattern and select the "jd-gold" pattern (scale 100% - angle 0).

3. Go to Image - Add - Borders.  Then make sure Symmetric is checked and 3 is in all of the boxes.  Click OK.

4. Using your magic wand , Tolerence and Feather set to 0 and Sample Merged UNchecked, click on the new border.  Flood fill with the gold pattern.

5. Go to Selections - Invert.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 65
Blur 20
Vertical and Horizontal 2.

6. Repeat the Cutout but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -2.  Selections - Select None.

7. Reverse your foreground and background in the Styles Pallette by clicking the arrow shown below:

8. Add another border of 20px (this should be the color you chose from your image).  Select the new border with your Magic Wand.  Go to Effects - Texture Effects - Fine Leather and use these settings:

Color Black
Angle 239
Blur 10
Number of Furrows 139
Length of Furrows 6
Transparency 250

9. Go to Effects - Sharpen - Sharpen.  Now add a Cutout with these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 45
Blur 10
Vertical and Horizontal 2.

10. Repeat the cutout but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -2.  Selections - Select None.

11. Go to Selections - Select All.  Then Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Then Image - Crop to Selection.  This will remove the ugly edges left by the Leather effect.

12. Add another border of 3px and fill with the gold fill.  Selections - Select None.  Your image is finished.  Here is one using a different image.
