Christmas Ornament

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open a tube and one of the ornament tops that you want to use.  Minimize these for now.

2. Open a transparent image 400 x 400.  Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers).  With your Selection Tool set to Circle, antialias checked, draw a circle from coordinates 200,200 to 350,350 .

3. Flood fill the selection with White.

4. Go to Effects - Noise - Add - 50% Uniform.

5. Go to Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 7.

6. Selections - Modify - Contract by 10.  Invert and hit Delete on your keyboard.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 40
Blur 55
Horizontal and Vertical 0.

7. Keep selected.  This is what you should have so far:

8. Add a new layer.  With your foreground set to White, set up your paintbrush with these settings:

9. Draw 3 lines as shown:

10. Add a Gaussian Blur of 15.  Selections - Select None.  Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.  At this point you can export as a tube (File - Export - Picture Tube) or save in psp format for later use.

11. Select a tube you want to use for decoration and go to Edit - Copy.  Activate your ornament image and Edit - Paste as New Layer.  Move the slider on this layer in your Layer Palette and lower the opacity to give it a softer look.  If you want to color the ornament, go back to Layer 1 and go to Colors - Colorize and move the sliders until you are satisfied with the color.  Layers - Merge - Merge Visible and Resize to 75%.

12. Select one of the hangers and go to Edit - Copy.  Activate your ornament image and Edit - Paste as New Layer and move to the top of the ornament.  Add the following Drop Shadow:

Color Black
Opacity 40
Blur 5
Vertical and Horizontal 0.

13. Merge Visible and you're done.
