This zip file containing the reindeer selections. Unzip the file and save in your PSP Selections folder. If you do not have a Selections folder, make one now.

Rudy Reindeer

This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.

** Remember to save your work often! **

1. Open a transparent image 450 x 450.  Set your foreground to Black.

2. Add a new Raster Layer (all layers will be Raster layers) and name it "antlers".  Load the "jd-antlers" selection (Selections - Load from Disk).  Flood fill the selection with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #F5D181.  Keep selected.

3. Go to Selections - Float.  Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:

Color Black
Opacity 51
Blur 9.5
Horizontal and Vertical 3.

4. Repeat the Cutout but change Horizontal and Vertical to -3.  Selections - Select None.

5. Add a new layer and name it "ears".  Load the "jd-ears" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #CC854F.  Repeat Step 3.

6. Add a new layer and name it "inside".  Load the "jd-earinside" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #FAC0AA.  Repeat Step 3 but for the Cutout change the color to White.

7. Add a new layer and name it "legs".  Load the "jd-legs" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #CC854F.  Repeat Step 3 (remember to change the Cutout color back to Black).

8. Add a new layer and name it "feet".  Load the "jd-feet" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #5B3F34.  Repeat Step 3.

9. Add a new layer and name it "body".  Load the "jd-body" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #CC854F.  Repeat Step 3.

10. Add a new layer and name it "arms".  Load the "jd-arms" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #CC854F.  Repeat Step 3.

11. Add a new layer and name it "right hand". (I know - reindeer do not have hands and feet - but just humor me here LOL).  Load the "jd-righthand" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #5B3F34.  Repeat Step 3.

12. Add a new layer and name it "left hand".  Load the "jd-lefthand" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #5B3F34.  Repeat Step 3.

13. Add a new layer and name it "head".  Load the "jd-head" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #CC854F.  Repeat Step 3.

14. Add a new layer and name it "nose".  Load the "jd-nose" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with #FF0000.  Repeat Step 3.

15. Add a new layer and name it "eyes".  Load the "jd-eyes" selection.  Fill with Black.  Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.  Fill with White.  Selections - Select None.  On the same layer, load the "jd-eyeinsides" slection and flood fill with Black.  Selections - Select None.  On the same layer, load the "jd-face" selection and fill with Black.  Selections - Select None.

16. Add a new layer.  Make your foreground color #E7A59C and set up your paintbrush like this:

17. Paint two dots for the cheeks.  Go to Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 5.

18. Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.  I have included the gift package that I used in the zip file; you can use it, decorate any way you like, or just leave him as he is now.  Rudy is now ready to be tubed (File - Export - Picture Tube).
