Shadow Frame
This tutorial was written using PSP7, but can probably be done in earlier versions with a few adjustments.
** Remember to save your work often! **
1. Open the image you wish to frame. If you would like to use this one, right click and save to your computer. Shift - D to make a copy of your image; minimize this copy for now.
2. Set your background color to White and your foreground to Pattern and select the "glitterfill" pattern (scale 100% - angle 0).
3. Click on your Selection Tool set to Ellipse - Feather 0 - Antialias Checked. Place your cursor in the exact center of your image and draw an ellipse the size you want it. The image below was done with black to show you the size ellipse I drew.
4. Add a new Raster Layer and Flood Fill the selection with the glitterfill. Go to Selections - Modify - Contract by 3 and hit Delete on your Keyboard. Selections - Select None.
5. Go to Selections - Select All, then Selections - Float. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:
6. Selections - Select None. You should have something similar to this:
7. Using your magic wand , click inside your ellipse. Selections - Invert and add a new layer. Fill with the glitterfill. Go to Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur and set the Radius 5. Keep selected.
8. Go to Effects - Plug-in Filters - FunHouse - Twister. Move the slider to 125 and click OK. Keep Selected.
9. Go to Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast. Set the Brightness to 25 and the Contrast to 17. Keep selected.
10. Go to Selections - Float. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout and use these settings:
Color Black
Opacity 65
Blur 20
Vertical and Horizontal 0.
11. Selections - Select None. Go to Layers - Arrange - Move Down.
12. Click on your top layer (this should be your ellipse layer). Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:
Color Black
Opacity 55
Blur 10
Vertical and Horizontal 0.
13. Layers - Merge - Merge All (Flatten).
14. Go to Image - Add Borders. Make sure Symmetric is checked and 3 is in each box. Click the border with your Magic Wand and fill with the glitterfill. Add the same Inner Bevel as before. Add the same Drop Shadow as before. Selections - Select None.
15. Add another border of 16. Change your Pattern to the copy of your image that you made earlier. Flood fill the border with your Pattern. Add a Gaussian Blur of 5. Go to Effects - Plug-in Filters - Filter Factory A - Pool Shadow. Use the Default settings and click OK.
16. Add a border of 3. Change your Pattern back to the glitterfill and fill the border. Add the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow as before.
17. Click on your Paint Brush . As shown below, click the paint brush on your Tool Options box, choose "custom" from the drop-down menu and browse to your brushes folder. I am using "klorn4" but you can use any one that you like. You will need to adjust the size of your brush, depending on the size of your image. Mine is set to 160. Also, on the second tab of your Tool Options box, check the box beside "show brush outlines" so you will be able to see where you are placing your brush.
18. Add a new layer. You should have the glitterfill as your foreground. Place your brush at the upper left corner so that the edge just touches the gold outside border, hold your mouse very still and click 3 or 4 times until it is as dark as you want it. Add the same Drop Shadow that we have been using.
19. Now go to Layers - Duplicate, then Image - Mirror. Now Layers - Duplicate, then Image - Flip. Now Layers - Duplicate, then Image - Mirror. This will give you a brush in each corner. Merge All Layers and you are done.
Here is another example using a different image.
